Let me preface this by writing that we’re glad that (1.) the family of black bears made it across the bridge unharmed and (2.) that no tourists were maimed in the making of this video. Anyway, here is a visual account of what we declare is the most AMERICAN of videos. Why? You have your less-than-athletic crowds of seers going out into the supposed thick of nature at beautiful Yellowstone only to cut and run the moment they encounter this sought-after nature in its furriest. Then, as the park ranger is directing everyone to get the hell out of dodge, an emboldened few continue to peek their heads out into mama bear’s sightline to get those Facebook or Instagram shots. Everyone knows you don’t poke mama bear when she is with her cubs.
Now this isn’t a place for soapboxing on the state of America with commentary on those aforementioned less-than-athletic crows, but it is downright discouraging when we look at put these two species from this particular circumstance right next to each other then consider what we consider the supposed established hierarchy in the animal kingdom.
Also, how cute is it when one of the cubs takes a second to stop and smell the roses/river below?
