Bottlenose dolphins are incredibly smart. They’re both smart enough to stay away from us and smart enough to know that we can help. Keller Laros, founder of the Manta Pacific Research Foundation and a PADI Scuba Instructor has over 10,000 logged dives. During those dives, he’s seen a lot of stuff, but we’d wager none of it compares to the time a dolphin swam up to him and asked for his help.
When Laros looked closely at the dolphin, he realized something was wrong: it couldn’t move its left pectoral fin. On closer inspection, Laros realized there was a fishing hook stuck in it and the line was wrapped around it. Using a knife and scissors, he carefully removed the hook and cut the line, all while the dolphin patiently waited.
