HUGE avalanche control on #BCHwy1 today. The control was necessary to reduce the snow load in the Lanark snowshed area. Pretty dramatic… Watch: pic.twitter.com/zvwu5lNzzW

Ever been close to an avalanche? Hopefully, you’ve never been so close that you were IN an avalanche, but being near one is a thing you’ll remember for the rest of your life. There is, perhaps, no more obvious place of the power of Mother Nature than a thunderous, sweeping avalanche. The one see above will be embedded in the minds of the people on the ground forever, and for good reason.
It was a controlled one, thankfully, created by BC Transportation above a highway in the Lanark snowshed area near Revelstoke. “The control was necessary to reduce the snow load in the Lanark snowshed area,” wrote BC Transport on Twitter.
