This past spring, we brought you the story of Michael Wirth recording the second descent of the remote Comstock Couloir (one of the 50 Classic Ski Descents in North America) completely solo. Now, here’s the video to prove it. Follow along as Wirth gives a full account of the behind-the-scenes planning his mission required, as well as the action that went down along the way.
Take note that just last week, Cody Townsend published a video of his own attempt to tackle the remote couloir, with the first descent-er, Greg Hill himself, in tow. However, inclement weather forced the team to turn back before reaching the summit, offering a pointed lesson in how things don’t always go your way in the mountains. Most of all, it puts into context how incredibly wild Wirth’s feat is.
