Just off Vancouver Island on Canada’s west coast, there was a killer whale named Luna. At the age of two, Luna was separated from him pod, and for some reason, began approaching docks, boats, and pretty much anywhere with humans. Always playful, Luna even loved dogs… as seen here.
Luna’s tale is an interesting one–for five years, he swam around Nootka Sound, making a name for himself with tourists. Of course, there were concerns that someone might get hurt, and in 2004, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans decided they were going to capture him and place him in captivity. The First Nations people in the area, however, weren’t having any of it. They believed that Luna (or Tsu’xiit, as they called him) was actually one of their former chiefs reincarnated. Sadly, in 2006, Luna was killed by a tugboat.
