The Inertia

The Lyon 25 is truly an iconic spot… for skateboarding. It’s significantly less well known as a skimboarding locale, mostly because it is located nowhere near any water. That didn’t stop Adrien Raza from taking a run at it, though.

The Lyon 25, as the name would suggest, is a set of 25 stairs located in Lyon, France. With a nearly 15-foot drop that spans 22 feet, the gap is the stuff of legend. The first attempt at the Lyon 25 was seen in the 2002 skate video Sorry, where Swedish skater Ali Boulala tried and ultimately failed to conquer the stairs. Twelve years later, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki tackled it again and ended up tearing his MCL in the process. It wasn’t until October of 2015 that he would have another run at the stairs – this time finally sticking the landing and writing himself into the pages of skateboarding history.

Enter Adrien Raza. In addition to winning European championships, the Dutch skimboarder is well known for his “skim everything” approach to the sport. He’s constantly pushing the boundaries of what can actually be ridden, with eye-catching footage set in incongruous locations. With that pedigree, the Lyon 25 seems like a natural fit for some urban skimming shenanigans.

“Discovered the easiest way to conquer the very iconic Lyon 25!” wrote Raza on Instagram. “So much respect to all the big shredders that jumped these stairs! Might have to bring a skim pool to give it a go next time!”
