The worldwide skateboarding community is so ethnically and culturally diverse today that it’s easy to forget that was hardly the case up until the mid-’90s. Eric “Tuma” Britton is a pioneering 42-year-old African-American skater from Venice whose bright spirit and talent has inspired the current generation of skaters in his community and around the world. Head to the Venice Skatepark on any given day and you’ll likely see him tearing it up alongside today’s greatest talent. However, the iconic location you see today is much, much different than it was back then. Here’s a snippet of the Venice Beach story through the eyes of skateboarding legend, Eric “Tuma” Britton.
