If you are a shark, a dead whale is a pretty ideal meal. Covered in energy-rich blubber and not able to swim away, dead whale present the perfect dinner. It’s a sad reality that animals have to die for other animals to eat, and in the stunning footage above from BBC Earth’s Blue Planet II, we’re afforded an up-close-and-personal view of exactly what that reality looks like.
A whale, dead after a ship-strike, becomes a meal for great white sharks and blue sharks, some of which may not have eaten for months. Whale meat forms a relatively big part of a shark’s diet. And after gorging themselves, we’d bet they’ll be full for a while.
