In the middle of all the chaos we live in a daily basis on Earth, many of us do whatever we possibly can to make the ocean our natural habitat. It is one of the few moments and places in life that we can actually isolate ourselves from everything and everyone, and have a little peace and tranquility. Be it with surfing, swimming, sailing, kitesurfing, and especially with free-driving, being on and below the surface gives us access to a world unknown.
About four years ago, when I decided to dedicate my career to surfing big waves, I began to immerse myself into the world of free-diving and took its practice seriously. I knew that training my body to be calm and master staying underwater as long as I possibly could would be the only tool to help me in a moment of danger or panic. The more I understood the workings of my body, how to relax underwater and hold my breath, the more I saw how I could control myself and feel completely at home in the ocean environment whether in its most peaceful state or its most violent.
I love the ocean and everything it has to offer. Free-diving has become my way of escaping, a therapy that is hard to replace with anything else found on Earth.
