You know a skier has made it when he makes a solo film. By that standard and many more, JF Houle has reached levels of success in skiing that a majority of the most ambitious young riders never will.
Houle started his career by jibbing the streets of Quebec with his buddies; Quebec does not offer much in the realm of vertical feet, but it does provide lots and lots of snow. And in jibbing the streets, JF & Co. redefined what it meant to be a skilled skier. No longer did you have to win competitions, huck technical tricks, or dominate epic lines. You can be a pro skier just from being really good at “chipping paint” as Uncle E so eloquently puts it. That being said, JF Houle did take his talents to the X games, and won Slopestyle Gold in 2011.
And for every skier that emerges from the anonymity of urban skiing to win gold at the X Games, there are plenty of young bucks beginning that same journey — which is exactly what Misconceptions from Perspective Studios is.
These guys burst onto the scene last year with their debut film Perspective, featuring a perfectly diverse soundtrack. This group of British skiers are building off the same approach to skiing demonstrated by the Quebec jibbers preceding them. Watch out for these names. These kids are hungry, talented, and not afraid to chip some paint.
