We’re all familiar with pow hungry. We’re even familiar with pow crazy. But there is an awesome unfamiliarity about the monstrous appetite of Geoff McAndrews, an appetite that knows no bounds. And that makes it all the more interesting when watching him satiate that appetite with a handful of untouched runs in the Salt River Range.
Hiking into the backcountry, he finds solace in the escape, setting up camp under a makeshift lean-to wedged into a tree.
The escape is important because it offers him respite from what he identifies as an overwhelming depression of sorts. Geoff explains in the edit: “I’m hyper for two to three years, then I’ll be depressed for two or three years. I recently sat on the couch for two years at my mom’s house.”
And while those extreme energies undoubtedly throw him through a mental loop, when he is able to express himself physically, he rides like a madman — not the best riding, but aggressive nonetheless — and that is damn fun to watch. Does he play into the early stereotype of snowboarders that has long been shed? Definitely. But that doesn’t make that stoke any less relatable.
You do you, Geoff. Keep searching for and finding that powder, and you do you.
