The Inertia

Carlos Gauna is a man who knows a lot about sharks. He’s quick to say that he’s not a marine biologist, but he’s been studying sharks — great white sharks in particular — for a long time now. His goal is “to use photography and drones to bring awareness to wildlife and the nature around us.” He routinely gets some of the best footage of great whites anywhere, and in his latest episode, he joins up with scientists of the California State University Long Beach Shark Lab to tag a few of them.

“On a cloudy and misty morning, Research Technicians Emily Spurgeon and Patrick Rex head the team on a mission to place more receivers in the array and to tag white sharks,” he wrote. “This was an incredible learning experience and a first hand look at how shark tagging is done.”
