The Inertia

Nature be crazy, right? She can seem cruel sometimes. Cute things get killed and eaten by not-so-cute things. Blood and gore and thrashing and violence can turn even a cement-filled stomach, but it’s part and parcel of the nature of things. Sharks gotta eat, and dolphins are delicious (to sharks, of course, not to us).

Carlos Gauna, the man who runs a YouTube channel called TheMalibuArtist, spends a lot of time searching the California coastline for sharks. Other things, too, but mostly sharks. He uses a drone to do it, and he routinely captures absolutely stunning footage. Like the footage you see above — which, fair warning, may turn your stomach. But like Carlos says, “this is nature in its rawest form.”

Carlos, as we mentioned, really likes sharks. The footage you see above is from a while back, but it’s so rare that he decided he wanted to give it a bit of context.

“I wanted to share the events from my perspective as a photographer and drone operator as they transpired,” he wrote. “This was a very unique experience and I was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time to capture this footage.”
