Over the last year or so of filming great white sharks in Southern California, Carlos Gauna has spotted a lot of them. Usually, however, they’re in the 5-8-foot range — juvenile sharks, just learning the ways of the world — but it’s rare to spot one bigger than that. But recently, he found one that was considerably bigger.
“When a great white shark this big comes close to shore, it’s bound to attract a lot of attention,” he says. “And this one? Well let’s just say it attracted a lot of humans.”
Gauna, who runs the YouTube page The Malibu Artist, goes on to caution against getting too close to these creatures. While having a quick look from a reasonable distance isn’t necessarily illegal or all that bad, it can be a little too tempting for some to get as close as possible. Which, of course, is a bad thing.
