Every year, a man named Carlos Gauna spends many of his days standing on a beach somewhere, staring into the screen of his drone control. He’s looking for anything interesting, but the thing that really piques his interest are great white sharks. Although he’s not a marine biologist, he’s gained quite a following from both the general public and marine animal researchers around the world, and the footage he routinely captures is pretty stunning.
“My goal is to use photography and drones to bring awareness to wildlife and the nature around us,” he writes on his YouTube channel, The Malibu Artist. “I welcome collaborations with scientists to bring cinematic elements to the educational presentation.”
Since we’re now a few days into 2024, Gauna decided that he’d comb through his hundreds of hours of footage and find the best of the best that featured the great white shark.
“This is my annual collection of my favorite great white shark moments filmed with my drone over the course of this year,” he said. “Watch until the end. It is something nobody has ever seen before. Everything here is presented in 4K and was captured along the coast of Southern, Central, and Northern California.”
