As you know, GoPro kinda changed the footage game. Give an athlete a camera small enough to not affect their performance, make said camera spit out movie-quality clips, and then build a massive action sports brand around it. It’s a good business model, apparently. Especially now with the never-ending content monster that the internet provides and the public’s unquenchable thirst for it.
For surfers, it’s one of those things that provides a view of something not every surfer will be lucky enough to experience: the view inside a giant barrel. It’s the bread and butter of surfing bloggers like Nathan Florence and Jamie O’Brien, and it never gets old. Remember Koa Smith’s Skeleton Bay Octo-tube? Hard to forget, and we only got to see what it was like from that particular angle because of GoPro (and Koa’s barrel prowess, of course). But GoPro, in their infinite wisdom, just released the wildest POV videos from 2021… and surfing is glaring absent.
