“The risks and the consequences never decrease… so you better have a really damn good internal motivation of WHY you are doing this.” – Richard Webb
Fighter pilots are badasses — the kind of badasses that are not only brave and bold but brainy and generally brilliant. So, with this reasoning in place, 42-year-old Richard Webb is a badass. And now, as an airline pilot based out of Moab, Utah, Webb is applying that badass-ery to BASE jumping and wingsuit flying.
Trigonometry, numbers and tools and science, aeronautical engineering degree, real life experience taking off and landing on aircraft carriers — that is what goes into a single jump for Webb. He uses lasers to measure the distances, and an angle meter to determine optimal positioning.
The dangers of BASE jumping and wingsuit flying have never been more public. This behind-the-scenes glimpse of the preparations that go into, again, single jumps is eye-opening to say the least.
