The Inertia

Despite a long-held belief by many surfers that seeing dolphins means there are no sharks in the area, Carlos Gauna, a man who spends much of his life filming both great white sharks and dolphins, disagrees. In fact, he thinks that when he spots a pod of dolphins, his chances of spotting a great white actually increase. And in his most recent video, we see incredibly rare footage of dolphins going on the offensive.

“Every single day, there are incredible interactions in the ocean,” Gauna said. “Perhaps none intrigue me more than those of dolphins and great white sharks… Many folks have long believed that seeing a pod of dolphins means there are likely no sharks around. As you’ve seen on this channel, this isn’t always the case.”

While filming with his drone high above the Southern California coastline, Gauna captured a pod of dolphins, as well as a few surfers and swimmers who were interested in them. “Not every dolphin and shark interaction is peaceful,” Gauna continued. “Sometimes the dolphins seem like bullies.”

And as you can see in the back half of this video, the dolphins sure do seem to be messing with the great white for fun.
