Only a few people in the world have scored the infamous Comstock Couloir. One of the 50 Classic Ski Descents in North America, it has been ridden twice in recorded history. Once by pioneering ski mountaineer Greg Hill and friends (Greg being the skier who added Comstock to the list), and once by Michael Wirth last year.
Another attempt went down last year by none other than Cody Townsend, who’s on a multi-year journey to ski all 50 of the classic descents. However, tricky conditions being par for the course last snow season, “We had plans and Mother Nature had other plans,” says Cody. Comstock is a remote line deep in the Selkirk Mountains that requires camping along the way to access. So if conditions look wrong once the mountain comes into view, it’s not as simple as waiting in the van for things to clear up.
