Big air, bad knees, who cares? Photo: YouTube//Screenshot

The Inertia

Candide Thovex is unbelievably good at skiing. He’s been unbelievably good for a long, long time, and now that he’s in his early 40s, one might expect him to slow down a bit. He is not doing that, as evidenced by the two side hits you see in the video here.

Knees, as you know, fall apart with time. Thovex’s penchant for doing things like this hasn’t left him uninjured. The Flying Frenchman, as he’s known, has broken many-a-bone, had many a concussion, and even, after one particularly bad accident, been told that he’d never ski again. Clearly, though, he didn’t listen.

The side hit you see here is in Tignes, a place Thovex knows well. With each passing year, he knows it better and better and finds more and more spots to fly from. And we’re here for it.
