On September 1, 2019, The Thomas Family, along with the residents of McLean’s Town, East End Grand Bahama, were directly in the path of Hurricane Dorian. Many today refer to this storm as a Catagory 6. With wind gusts over 200 mph and a storm surge of 23 feet, it hovered over McLean’s Town for nearly 48 hours.
After surviving three nights at the mercy of the ocean, Barri Thomas was airlifted to Princess Margret Hospital in Nassau on September 4, 2019. Her husband and three children were never seen again.
This film sheds light on the courage, resilience, and determination of an amazing woman. Barri Thomas pushes forward each day to rebuild her life. However, like many other Bahamians who lost loved ones, her family is considered “missing.” Bahamian law requires a person to be missing for seven years before a death certificate can be issued. As government officials promise to shorten this time, the reality is they have failed. Barri must hire an attorney and petition the courts, to get what is rightfully hers: her family’s death certificates.
