The Inertia

Action sports tend to have an equal appreciation for where they came from and where they’re going. There’s always a reverence for our roots. There’s always a fascination with progression. The push and pull keep things fresh, fun, interesting.

Freeskiing is one of those sports (or subsection within a sport?) that’s ripe for this exact concept. As a melting pot of so many disciplines within skiing — and one that’s still relatively new — its roots can be traced to different places and through different stories pretty easily.

This is the inspiration behind Roots, an eight-chapter feature-length film highlighting the elements that came together to create freeskiing as we know it. The film was shot on location in the Wyoming and Montana backcountry, Mt. Baker, the Italian Dolomites, Finland, Verbier, and Switzerland, with over two dozen of today’s best exploring different destinations.

Looking for inspiration to carry into a new winter or just your next day trip? This’ll do it.
