The Inertia

File this one under random, interesting (old) things you come across on the Internet. Not many people would attempt this, and for good reason. Australian skipper Ian Sloan boldly entered 15-foot seas across the Southport Barway in Queensland after he and his crew grew impatient waiting for the swell to die down.

Instead of waiting, they decided to surf the 46-foot catamaran down the face of what could have been a very expensive (and perhaps life-threatening) wave.

“It’s just about 9 AM and I just had a beer,” he said. “I never do that. I needed it this morning, though.”

Not many people would even attempt what Ian Sloan accomplished. The Australian skipper boldly decided to enter 15-foot seas and surf a 46-foot catamaran down the face of what could have been a very expensive (and perhaps life-threatening) wave.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story misstated that the catamaran came to shore in Tasmania; when, in fact, it launched in Tasmania and came to shore in Queensland.
