Southern Bali has experienced extensive flooding in the past few days. Starting on Thursday, sudden, heavy rains have led to waters rising up to 1.7 feet in some parts. In the midst of widespread destruction, several tourists have been documented riding surfboards through city streets.

As the Bali Sun reports, flooding has been widespread across Denpasar, Kuta, and Seminyak,. Social media videos show widespread damage in the region, including flooded homes, uprooted trees, downed power lines and destroyed vehicles. Officers from the Natural Disaster Management Agency have been deployed across the region to aid citizens and attempt to control the flooding.

Despite many roads being rendered impassable, locals have continued to venture outside to brave the conditions. Crowds of motorists have been documented fording flooded streets in scooters and automobiles, while un-flooded streets have been swamped by traffic jams. Meanwhile, a few hotels have even resorted to using inflatable rubber dinghies to shuttle their guests to useable roads. Several social media videos have also shown foreigners paddling on surfboards through flooded city streets.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t look to be the end of the issue. Storms are forecasted for the rest of the week, with the next one slated to arrive as early as April 5.
