At the time, the idea made perfect sense: build our own sailboats and take them 1,000 miles down the Intracoastal Waterway. Our four person team had little wood working experience building some boards, so how much harder could a boat be? Spoiler alert: MUCH HARDER.
We partnered with Chesapeake Light Craft to design and build two wooden sailing canoes for the adventure. With a three week time limit, we had to work quickly.
After finishing the build in record time we threw the boats in the water near Norfolk Virginia and pointed the compass south. So far we’ve managed not to sink the boats, seen some amazing sunsets, and found an island full of wild horses.
