The Inertia

Plenty of people dream of taking that road trip of a lifetime, living in the very thing that’s getting them from Point A to Point B along the way. Mine is all planned out: Northern California to Panama with surfboards boards in tow. For as long as I can remember, my family and I gazed enviously at campers we’d pass on the road.

A few obstacles stand between myself and this dream, though. The main thing is often that these things are both gigantic and have a hefty price tag. The company Happier Campers came up with an alternative with their small trailer that’s lightweight enough to be towed by virtually any vehicle — even my beat up Subi Forester. It’s fully convertible, so you can easily transform the space to suit your needs within minutes. It can become a kitchenette and dining area with ample counter space, an airy lounge, a huge bed they claim sleeps up to five, storage space for all those surfboards, or even a sales window. I’m a sucker for that kind of simplicity and maximization of space. I think it’s a looker, with panoramic windows and a modern-retro design. The icing on the cake? It’s on the lower end of the average price range for campers. If you’re not looking to shell out $19,000, they have rental options as well.

Perhaps my epic journey to Panama isn’t so far off.
