If you’ve surfed in a tropical destination, then you know that the water is warm and clear, the coconuts are fresh and the beer always tastes good. If you found some good waves, then you probably felt that adrenaline as you slotted into barrels – a racing wall of water on one side and aqua water barely covering a rocky reef on the other.
After that wave, you kick out and shout at your buddies in the lineup (we’ll pretend none of us ever fall). But what about that reef the waves are breaking on? What does it look like?
I recently returned from an assignment called the Best of Southeast Asia, visiting 14 resorts across Indonesia and Papua New Guinea to scuba dive the most pristine reefs in the world. Organized by scuba travel agency Bluewater Travel, our goal was to shoot underwater photo and video from all of these places.
Mission success. Now you can see what those reefs look like – at least in Indonesia.
