The Inertia

I recently had the opportunity to travel to a fishing town in northern Peru, volunteering with an organization supporting the local youth. Sure enough, it turns out this town was home to a very inviting left point break, breaking perfectly down the beach before reaching the pier.

The laid-back energy of the town helped me focus my creative energy on photography whenever I wasn’t volunteering. I wanted to capture the life the local people got to experience on a daily basis. And that helped me see the things they find important in life are very different from many other places in the world. There’s a deep respect for nature here because the majority of income for families is in some way reliant on the Earth and the ocean. Traveling to a place where surfing and the ocean are a central part of the culture was eye-opening because it just goes to show that there is a universal reason why people surf and get hooked for life.

Give Jeff Bautista a follow on Instagram here! We kinda dig his work.
