Food. Bring it, catch it or kill it. Because cannibalism isn’t cool. Photo: Justin DeShields

The Inertia

4. Food. We have mostly sustained ourselves on peanut butter and jelly tortillas. This may sound silly, but typically 2 tablespoons of peanut butter have about 7-9 grams of protein, which is helpful when you feel like you are on your last limb. We have also been utilizing small packets of refried beans that are sold at many convenience stores in Baja. While on the Gulf, we have been eating fish that we catch by trolling from our boards. We are practically dining in fresh ceviche every night!

Shoes. Not just a feminine obsession, but also a desert traveler’s must-have. Photo: Justin DeShields

5. Shoes. As you can see from the picture, that is Bryan’s 6th toe that developed after about a month and a half of walking. After countless blisters and weird numbing sensations in our toes, we have learned the hard way that the correct footwear is imperative. We have also noted that ankle-high boots are necessary when most of the dried plants and small cacti seem to love going after your Achilles.
