The Inertia

Zeke Lau is good at surfing. He’s good at a great many other things, too, but we’re really mostly interested in the surfing part.

It has been interesting to see him going back to basics with learning a new discipline, in a recent run of downwind SUP foiling videos. In one installment, he spoke about inhabiting the “beginner’s mind,” a humbling state that had a Championship Tour veteran losing balance and eating it like the rest of us for a change. However, while it was comforting to have a “stars, they’re just like us” moment, sometimes you really just want to see the guy who rips rip.

Thankfully, that’s exactly what’s going on in his latest post. Bluntly titled “A Week of Waves,” it’s a punchy and relentless edit in which Lau attacks the surf in his signature style. He’s catching and riding the sort of waves most of us can only faintly imagine riding in our most generous surfing fantasies – plus a few wince-inducing beatdowns for good measure.

In short, it’s exactly what we wanted, no more and no less.
