In recent months, Santa Cruz-based Buell Surf has added names like Dane Reynolds and Jamie O’Brien to its roster of athletes, which included a personalized line of suits with Reynolds and his official terms written out on scratch paper. The company has further beefed up that roster with a CT presence, signing Sage Erickson and Jadson Andre. They’ve jumped into the big-wave game making specialized flotation suits. And along the way, the brand’s namesake, Ryan Buell and his alter-ego M.C. Buell has thrown in a rap music video or two for a dash of creativity.
There’s no cookie-cutter formula for Buell to follow in growing its brand, apparently. Its latest addition to the athlete roster is Australian competitor and QS points leader, Matt Banting.
“We’re excited to see Matty representing Buell wetsuits. His surfing is sharp and has a presence that cannot go unnoticed in any lineup. Have you seen his Instagram clips lately? His great attitude and work ethic speak for themselves,” says Marketing VP Chad Wells.
“I’m psyched to join the team with the likes of JOB, Dane, and Sage,” Banting says of the new two-year endorsement. “It feels good to be involved in an emerging brand in Australia. I love the suits and am honored to be a part of the Buell program.”
