The Inertia

Windsurfing is not the most mainstream of ways to surf a wave. It is, however, an extraordinary way to do it. Did you know that Mr. Pipeline himself, Gerry Lopez, was an avid windsurfer? “I’ve gone through different phases in my life, like when windsurfing came along,” he told The Inertia. “I mean, there was a while there where I didn’t even throw the surfboard in the car. I’d just throw the windsurf stuff in and go windsurfing all day.”

Jason Polakow is a wave-rider of much acclaim. When it comes to wavesailing, he’s won just about everything there is to win. In February of 2016, he even became the first windsurfer surf Nazaré. And can you see why? Polakow traveled to Indonesia to chase what everyone’s chasing: perfect, uncrowded waves. He found all that he was looking for and a little bit more.
