Um, who is this guy? How is the name Coby Perkovich not top-of-mind when one thinks of Australian surfers? Add the fact that he apparently shapes his own boards to the fact that he surfs like a full-blown WCT’er, and one would assume that his name would be up there with the top free surfers. According to Ion, he’s just a guy from New Zealand that lives in Gold Coast, calls Dbah his spot, and started surfing in 1999.
But you know what? There’s something pretty wonderful about that fact that Perkovich ain’t a big name. He just goes about the business of surfing like the top surfers, punting the loftiest of airs, bashing the absolute shit out of lips, and finding tubes where he has no business finding tubes. And, for the most part, he does it with no one watching. Like they say, dance like no one is watching, right?
