This past week, I had the opportunity to photograph one of the biggest swells of the summer on the south shore of Oahu. Of all things, I was actually just here for a family vacation and this swell just happened to arrive right in the middle of it.
There were waves during our entire trip. Spots like Sandy Beach, Waikiki, and Ala Moana Bowls were all going off, respectively. Bowls lived up to its reputation of having the best surfers and some of the best waves you’ll find, and while some of the shots I captured don’t make the place look crazy heavy, it really is. Breaking over that shallow reef makes it one of the best barrels on the island.
I met so many new friends and got so many great shots. Here are a few of my favorite.
