Get Wedge Season Started Early With These 50 Insane Rides

California is in the very early days of spring and for a lot of surfers that means a few things are on the horizon. Upwelling will make dawn patrol water temps nearly unbearable. A northwest swell here and a random wind swell there will probably break up the monotony. And then, of course, those south swells and combo swells start finding their way into the mix. For the crew around Newport Beach, those south swells will bring the Wedge back to life. News trucks will take up parking spots in front of houses all over the Balboa Peninsula. And people will get blasted – whether it be through a doggy door and straight onto the sand or just straight onto the sand with a broken board.
Yes, Wedge season is almost here. One of the spot’s most devoted lensmen, Chris Monroe, aka Beefs T.V., is prepping us to see the Wedge’s unfair win-loss ratio, or as he puts it, “the Wedge in all it’s gnarliness is usually gonna end (90 percent of the time) with the wave winning and the rider at the mercy of full chaos…”.
Chris compiled six years of clips at the world famous wave. Grab some popcorn.
