The Inertia

I have this weird infatuation with surfing at night. I have a few theories to explain it, but after several years of this I haven’t settled on one just yet. Part of me thinks I might have been Bodhi in a past life, waiting for my Johnny Utah to paddle into my life so we can share moon lit fist pumps. There was this one time many years ago when my then-girlfriend showed up at Steamer Lane, sitting on the cliff until I climbed out of the water, only to have my buddy tell her I had probably been attacked by a shark because it was well past dark and he hadn’t seen me for hours. That was mean. But also funny. Truth is, I really just didn’t want to get out of the water yet. And there was another early evening session that turned into the coolest late night sesh ever when I saw some guy taking off out the back on something straight out of TRON.

Anyway, this is a party for all those other night surf fans. It’s called Os Patos Surfean de Noite, where everybody paddles out on LED equipped boards and/or throws down on the beach all night. The Patos Surf Club in Nigran, Spain just held this event for the 20th year and from the looks of it a lot of people turn out on the beach for each year’s festivities.  I have yet to find any videos of great waves, anybody getting barreled, or throwing down massive turns at the festival, but it looks like a fun time nonetheless. I imagine it’s just like the Point Break bonfire party minus the football (maybe they play futbol?) and with a lot more people, a lot more neon, and a bunch of techno music. Pretty much what Americans think of Europe anyway, right? We may have just missed this year’s shindig, but on the bright side, we have a reason to plan a European expedition for summer 2016. You can add this one to your bucket list.

What's a rad party without a rad promo poster? I can't tell if this is for surfing or an LMFAO club appearance, but I'm in.
