Surfing isn’t just standing up on a surfboard. It’s simply sliding around on a wave. The craft you choose is only a vessel for the act. Be it bodyboarding, stand up paddling, body surfing, hand planing, or waveskiing, we’re all surfers. Sure, we may bicker with each other every now and again, but we’re all in it for the same thing, and deep down, we all know it.
Waveskiing, however, is one of the least-seen forms of surfing. Way back in the ’60s, Merv Larson was doing things on a waveski that no one else was even thinking about. Since then, they’ve mostly gone the way of the dodo. But every now and then, you’ll see someone like Nathan Le Bars, who has clearly devoted a LOT of time to one of the weirdest looking facets of surfing.
