There’s been an artificial wave in the works for London for a long time now. First announced in 2018, the project is a second effort from the team behind Bristol’s surfing wave pool “The Wave.” The £50m project is planned for 56 acres of land in the Lee Valley regional park in Edmonton, north London. The latest development in the long-awaited pool is that The Wave has announced a partnership with Endless Surf to provide the facility’s wave-making technology.
“We are incredibly excited to work with the Endless Surf team on our next inland surf destination,” Hazel Geary, chief executive of The Wave, wrote in a press release. “Having watched the success of their first surf park launch in Munich, we can’t wait to deploy their innovative technology to bring perfect waves for all to North London. As a pioneer in the surf park sector, we have always chosen to be technology agnostic, as [we] realize that different developments have different requirements and restraints. We partnered with Wavegarden to open the world’s first Wavegarden Cove in 2019 at our Bristol site, which has been a great commercial success. Now we are delighted to be working with Endless Surf, as the right tech partner for our London project.”
According to the BBC, The Wave leaders have stated the project is in its “early stages” and intend to submit a planning application in spring. The plans are slated to go to public consultation next month.
