The Inertia

As an adult, few things sound more inviting than flashing back to the freedom you had on a summer afternoon as a kid. If you were one of the lucky ones, you probably woke up and hit the water for hours on end. Maybe you came out for lunch or got chased out of the ocean once onshore winds ruined the fun. That afternoon was always prime time for a skate because regardless of how over it you may have been with the conditions, you still needed the sensation of drawing some lines and making some turns — anything to have your feet on a board. Of course, that’d hold you over for the afternoon glass-off and it was back to the water, probably in a still-damp wetsuit, for another fix.

Multiple sessions. Multiple boards. Multiple turns. Multiple rides. Occasionally, we all get a chance here and there to live these days out and one universal sentiment is that we never grow too old to lose the enjoyment of them. Watching Grant Noble is a testament to that flow, following him around as he enjoys a selection of boards he shapes. As a kid, Noble says he realized he just started liking “weird boards.” As an adult, it shows in his versatility atop a variety of different shapes. Quite frankly, it’s an inspiration to mix things up, get in as many sessions as possible, and enjoy whatever you can get under your feet in the process.
