#WipeoutWednesday should be a hashtag reserved for the Wedge during California summers. Oh, the sponsorship loot that hashtag could reel in. Even when it’s not getting pummeled with swells, the regulars in its lineup find themselves hucking it over nearly dry, sandy beach, amusing the masses along the way.
We are never rooting against anybody in their pursuit of getting barreled. But of course, the unspoken agreement here is not just that a victorious escape is unlikely. No, it’s more than that. It’s that failing to fly through a Wedge tube unscathed results in either completely awkward or completely violent (most likely both) runs through the washing machine.
Newport videographer Brent Weldon spends enough time at the Wedge to know there isn’t a shortage of entertaining content here on a given day. He’s taken to compiling the best of the best wipeouts each week, and while you might think wrapping up a week with a simple top 10 is sufficient, the “honorable mentions” are pretty wild in their own right.
