You’ve heard by now that the 2020 Olympics will include surfing. Whether you’re in the camp that hates it or the camp that loves it matters not. It’s happening, and it’s happening in a place where the waves may not measure up to Olympic standards. To be sure, though, Tsurigasaki Beach in Chiba Prefecture does have good waves every now and again, but only time will tell if Mother Nature delivers a proper swell for the Games.
Organizers, however, are doing everything they can aside from creating a storm generator to make sure things go smoothly. That’s why they recently put on a test run for the surfing portion of the Tokyo Olympics. Australia’s Nine News was there to follow along. Hiroto Ohhara took home the “gold” in waves that hopefully won’t be what we see when the actual event happens.
