Where to go, where to go? The mention of a WNW swell headed toward California tends to shoot the masses into a frenzy as they debate when and where to be once waves start reaching the coastline. Black’s Beach is inevitably high on the to-do list for a majority of surfers and photographers within driving distance of San Diego and from everything we’ve seen pouring in over the past several days, it was the right call on January 6.
With the exception of a few fickle spots that rarely see action but got the right mix of swell direction and period this time around, you couldn’t go wrong if you’d picked Southern California’s favorite deep-water wave. Safe to say the abundance of clips, highlights, and images that came directly from this spot are producing thicker crowds for round two of a dream run on the West Coast.
