The Inertia

The Florence brothers have gone all in on foiling. They’ve professed their love for the alternate surf craft many times before, including with an ongoing partnership with Lift Foils. Their latest paean to the joys of foiling comes courtesy of Nathan Florence’s YouTube channel, where he posted footage from a marathon expedition off the coast of Oahu.

The video starts off with a gear check. Alongside their chunky, open-water boards, the list crucially includes a healthy amount of safety gear. The additions of precautions like high-vis rashguards and GPS watches are a welcome inclusion, as we almost lost Nathan on a similar foil mission earlier this year, when he got stranded in the middle of the ocean without his board.

Thankfully, this trip didn’t end up making use of any of that. Instead, it was an idyllic 20-minute ride that once again reaffirmed Nathan’s love for the sport. “Foiling is going nuts,” he said afterwards. “There’s all these sick races happening. It’s such a sick combo of endurance, ocean reading and kind of surfing, because you’re on waves out there.”

“We have full foil fever. Can’t stop.”
