The Inertia

Mason Ho and Uluwatu are a match made in heaven. Well, technically it’s a match made in Bali, but you get the idea.

Uluwatu is a world-class left-hand point break located on the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula. The wave was first captured on film in Albert Falzon’s seminal 1972 surf movie Morning of the Earth. In it, Nat Young, Terry Fitzgerald, Michael Peterson, Gerry Lopez and others forged a path through Indonesia that broke new ground for the surfing world (though obviously not for the Balinese locals) and paved the way for Bali as the surfing destination we know today.

Recently, Mason Ho carried on the proud tradition of Bali surf edits with a post to his YouTube channel. In it, the scion of the Ho surfing dynasty takes to totally empty waves in tropical paradise. As always, the action is accented by Ho’s unique and eclectic taste in musical accompaniment.

“This session just went down about six hours ago,” reads the caption. “Mason Ho tests out an Indonesian made …Lost surfboard in a very RARE uncrowded Uluwatu lineup. Stay tuned for some special sessions coming soon. Or maybe a short film. We still have to figure it out.”
