It’s been a busy week for the big wave community. Mavericks woke up from its summer slumber last weekend, a new Mavericks Festival was announced, and now, the 2021 Red Bull Big Wave Awards are going live today at 3 p.m. on WorldSurfLeague.com and Red Bull TV.
While the action was already done and dusted months ago, that’s part of the magic as we look back and celebrate the glory of last season to get stoked for this one. With over $350,000 in prize money on the line and submissions from the world’s very best big wave surfers such as Kai Lenny, Justine Dupont, Maya Gabeira, and Peter Mel, this is definitely an event worth tuning into.
The categories for the awards are as follows: Ride of the Year, Biggest Paddle, Biggest Tow, and Performer of the Year, each category split between men and women. The prize money will be an equal split between men and women competitors. In each of the four categories, first through fifth place will be awarded.
