The Inertia

John John Florence nailed quite possibly his best air of the season at the Rio Vivo Pro on Friday. JJF took to the skies in heat seven in Saquarema as part of a dominant performance that landed him the wave of the day.

With the thundering vengeance of a V2 rocket, Florence launched himself off a right-hander and landed an alley-oop that earned him a 9.0, the best single-wave score of day one. He went on to add a 6.67 ride for a 15.67 total, winning his heat by a sizable margin and delivering the highest combined score overall. Not to mention, the win sent him on to the bracket stage.

Though John’s attack by sea and air is a good sign for the competition to come, the Vivo Rio Pro is currently on hold due to suboptimal conditions. Let’s hope the waves come back, and the airs with them.
