Any minute now, we should hear about whether the Pipe Pro is going to get the green light. There was an explosive opening day that saw both rookies stepping up and some returning champions laid low. However, since then it’s been crickets. We were resigned to a check-in every morning to verify that Pipeline is still, in fact, not doing anything, then back to whatever else we have to do.
However, the need for surf footage is a powerful addiction. As much as we knew that Pipe was bound to reawaken eventually, waiting just wouldn’t cut it. We felt the itch, and our eyes started to wander.
In fact, they wandered all the way across two oceans and a continent to Hossegor, France, where the famed Les Landes wave appears to be having an all-time season. French YouTube channel Ripitup just posted a video from what it claims are 10 days of perfect surf, and the clips seem to back that up.
“Without going over the top, we could say we have just seen the best swell of the year so far in Les Landes,” exclaims Ripitup in the video description. “Day after day of epic conditions, solid waves brushed by continuous offshore winds.”
Pipe will return, there’s no doubt about it. Until then, however, hopefully this can satiate your hunger for ridiculous, barreling waves.
