Way back when the Rip Curl Search was still an event that searched/existed, it was one of the best things about the World Tour. An event with a roving license, the Search shifted locations depending on the waves. That meant that sometimes, even the surfers were surprised. It also meant that each event surfers were kept on their toes. Such was the case with the 2007 event in Chile, which was held at a psychotic slab breaking on urchin-covered rock reef. It was so sketchy, in fact, that it has the WSL asking if it was “THE SKETCHIEST EVENT EVER?!” Andy Irons, in classic Andy fashion, took the win, but the contest was full of excitement. The World Surf League took the time to stitch together a few highlights, and boy-oh-boy, is it a trip down memory lane.
