If you’re going to surf Pipeline, you need to be prepared for a beat down. It’s not an if, it’s a when. There isn’t a Pipe surfer alive who hasn’t been on the violent end of a wave there. When it gets big enough for second reef and third reef to start baring their teeth, an entire lineup can be caught unaware. Such was the case on a recent day at the North Shore’s shiniest gem, when Off Da Lip was on hand to film the action.
It was the morning before the final day of the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout. A big NW swell, perfect for Pipeline, was barging onto the sand. Lots of tubes. Lots of wipeouts. And many, many duck dives.
