The Inertia

“I agree that there is healing power in surfing. Surfing is an activity that encourages people to clear their mind and learn how to experience nature. It embraces personal qualities that are important to everyday life, including patience, perseverance, strength, insight and most of all confidence and fun.”

These are the words of a parent whose twin boys spend every day of every week in therapy, coping with challenges most people can’t imagine. But in just one day with A Walk on Water, this mother and her family got to experience the real power of surf therapy. It’s a powerful experience children with special needs have been given solely in California – until now. For the first time ever, AWOW is treading away from the West Coast to team up with the Montauk Beach House and invite Eastern Long Island families with special needs children to participate in a weekend of confidence-building surf therapy at Ditch Plains Beach.

“A Walk On Water has always prided itself on working closely with the local community, its businesses and its surfers,” said Pat Notaro III, Founder and President of AWOW. “We’re stepping into Montauk’s back yard for the first time and have been overwhelmed by the love and generosity we’ve received from this unique beach community. This event is just the beginning of our investment in AWOW’s east coast presence.”
